We had an interview with Dr. Rina Steynberg, the co-creator of Hero’s Journey. We asked her how it was to develop Hero’s Journey. She answered in 5 questions.
Q1: Where did Hero’s Journey originate?
I experienced clients being in a mode which they described as a “rat race”. Emotions such as frustration, meaninglessness, stuckness and even depression were evident. It was as if the energy was stuck or blocked. Once we started purpose work, this energy loosened and was available for goals and focus. Taking clients through a one-on-one process was rewarding for my colleague and me. However, we wanted to reach more people, so we developed the online Hero’s Journey. We also realized Psychologists can use the information and exercises in their practices and are always looking for CPD. So, this course where you can rediscover yourself, learn a few skills and earn CPD was born!
Q2: Why did you focus so intensely on beliefs in Hero’s Journey?
Our brains trick us by creating and storing programs. The brain is lazy! It runs these programs over and over, with the same results. We are, most of the time, unaware of these programs. I can recognize these programs when working with clients and we can change it. When clients do that, they get different results. It is an empowering process. Again, we captured these programs in Hero’s Journey in the hope that people will do these exercises to identify their limiting programs and change them. It was vital for me to share this knowledge with people.
Q3: Was Hero’s Journey a personal experience?
Every time I add something to Hero’s Journey or edit some of the work, it speaks to me! I cannot help but re-evaluate my purpose and see if I am still busy with it. I love that moment of confirmation! Or of course, I discover a new limiting belief in myself, which I can change. You can see Hero’s Journey is very personal. That is why I love it!
Q4: What is your favorite exercise in Hero’s Journey?
Oooh! I love the “Whiteboard Innersize”. I have done this exercise with many groups. Every time people are amazed by the fact that they are actually in CONTROL! My favorite part is where I ask, “Then…who is the I”. Such a magic moment!
Q5: Who can benefit from Hero’s Journey?
I benefit from it every time I go through it! It is personal, empowering and gives hope. Let’s be more specific:
- Every person who is serious about adding value in life,
- Every person who feels stuck and wants to refocus,
- Those of us who know something is holding us back and we are not quite sure what,
- Maybe you are all sorted out but deal a lot with clients who need this. You will learn a few tricks, or
- Maybe you just want to do something interesting for your CPD points. I promise you will not regret it!
It is for everybody. Just do it!
